Where we are

Click on 'ADD TO NOTES' and you can get all the info on this page emailed to you so you can read it whenever you want. Clever eh!

How's your geography? All shanti towns of Brazil and ox bow lakes? Well, just in case you don't know where we are, we've included this map. But roughly we're just up from Birmingham and left a bit - making us pretty much slap bang in the centre of the country.

Staffordshire University is spread out over four campuses, with three of them - funnily enough - in Staffordshire, and the other, the Shrewsbury campus, in Shropshire.

The main two campuses, and where most of the action happens, are Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. And the two have regular bus services to and from each other - co-funded by the University.

Don't worry if you're at one of the other two campuses though, they aren't too far away by public transport - or you could score a lift off you're mate for an I.O.U of petrol money...

Stoke-on-Trent
Sights: Victorian architecture and designer ceramics.
Smells: Staffordshire oatcake and tasty, locally cured bacon.

Home of bone china and earthenware, Stoke-on-Trent's a smashing place. Bum, bum. Thank you, we're here all week.
Confusingly, it's made up of several separate towns. The University's Campus is in Shelton. That's about 5 minutes bus ride from Hanley, the city centre, where you'll find loads to keep you fed, watered and entertained - see the 'Places to go, things to do' section for more info. Or, if you're feeling fit, a 5 minute walk from Stoke, where you'll find supermarkets and indoor and outdoor markets.

Stafford
Sights: Elizabethan timber buildings and a castle.
Smells: Shoe leather (famous for its shoe making) and cakes.

Conquered by marauding Vikings (that was quite a while ago now though), famous for its shoes and most importantly, great for a night out, Stafford's at the south of Staffordshire. Its campus is pretty close to the market town's relaxed centre, so it's perfect for a stroll to the pub and a gentle stagger back again. And the town's got loads to do day and night. Check out the 'Places to go, things to do' section for more info.

Lichfield
Sights: Cathedral spires and a good selection of pubs.
Smells: A pint of the local ale.

Staffordshire University's third campus is a short crawl to the Cathedral City of Lichfield in Staffordshire. The campus is actually a unique partnership between Staffordshire University and Tamworth and Lichfield College. But never mind that, most importantly Lichfield's got loads of top pubs and great places for a night out!

Shrewsbury
Sights: Shrewsbury Town football ground and medieval streets.
Smells: Flowers.
Being Shropshire's largest town, Shrewsbury has loads to offer if you're based in the University's campus there - from getting wet with some wake boarding and perfecting your swing with a round of golf, to eating out at great restaurants and nights in local pubs with your mates.

Getting About
Trainers aren't cheap. Luckily there's plenty of options to wearing out your beloved Stan Smiths. The public transport around the University campuses is great. Add that to our central location, and getting to and from the University to visit family and friends is a doddle.

Bus
First Buses are the big boys around Staffordshire, running routes all across the county. In Stafford itself it's Arriva you're looking for. And for inter-campus travel the Baker Buses X1 service is what you want - it operates regularly and on a daily basis.

Train
Birmingham, Manchester, London. They're all within easy reach of the University's campuses thanks to Virgin and Cross Country train links. There are also a number of regional operators, including East Midlands Trains and Northern Rail. And don't forget, if you're under 26 you can take advantage of a Young Person's Railcard and save even more money when you travel by train.
